Liberia 1977-FM 100 dollars
This specimen was lot 71679 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIBERIA. 100 Dollars, 1977. Franklin Mint. GEM UNCIRCULATED. Commemorating the 130th Anniversary of the Republic and featuring the bust of Joseph J. Roberts, the first president of Liberia. Highly brilliant and dazzling, with original cardboard case of issue." In the last twenty years, Liberia has fallen into the clutches of the private minters, who have issued such Liberian themed commemoratives as Star Trek (KM 128), Babe Ruth (KM 131) and Princess Diana (KM 464). This issue is a product of the Franklin Mint.
