This specimen was lot 2385 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Liberia. 25 Dollars, 1972 PCGS Proof 63. President Tolbert. Reverse: Providence Island. Sesquicentennial - Founding of Liberia. PCGS graded Proof 63." This type was struck to honor president Tolbert (1913-80, ruled 1971-80). In the last twenty years, Liberia has fallen into the clutches of the private minters, who have issued such Liberian themed commemoratives as Star Trek (KM 128), Babe Ruth (KM 131) and Princess Diana (KM 464).
