This specimen was lot 1342 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $78. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA: Carlos III, 1759-1788, AR 1/2 real, 1778-PTS, NGC graded EF40." This is an example of a type struck 1773-89 at Potosi, Bolivia (then called Upper Peru). It was replaced in 1791 by the bust of Charles IV. Harris[2] notes that Potosi half reales of Charles III are second to Mexico City as the commonest mint. Assayer PR is recorded for 1776-95.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.
Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.
