from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 697

This specimen was lot 697 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, 1612F. Round flan with full shield and nearly full cross, full oMF, just the bottoms of the digits of the date, low-contrast VF." This type was struck 1598-1621 in Mexico City and is not rare except in high grade. The vast majority lack dates, which were first applied in 1607.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.931 fine silver, .810 troy oz ASW, this specimen 27.15 grams.

Catalog reference: Cayón-4893, S-M17; KM-44.3; CT-105.
