This specimen was lot 1309 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it sold for $94. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Louis XV, 1715-1774, AR 12 sols, Orléans, 1760-R. Date unlisted for Orléans in KM, but listed as scarce date by Gadoury, VF, R." This coin, called a 1/10 écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a dime. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the 1/10 écu = 12 sols. The type was struck 1740-71 and is recorded for the Orléans mint ("R") for 1740-41, 1756, 1760, 1762-63, 1766-67. This issue is priced[2] as very scarce.

Recorded mintage: 8,300.

Specification: 2.95 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22 mm diameter, this specimen 2.88 g.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 850, Dr/2 № 587, KM-511.18. Gad-292.
