CNG Lissner sale, lot 1379

This specimen was lot 1379 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $229.90. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Republic. 1818-present. AR Decimo. Santiago mint. Dated 1891/81 So. In NGC encapsulation graded AU 58. Very nice about uncirculated with nice light patina. Very scarce one year only type." The condor was displayed on the one décimo piece 1864-94 in several subtypes. This subtype, struck 1891 only, temporarily lowered the weight to 2 g. The weight was restored in 1892 then lowered permanently to 2 g in 1896.

Recorded mintage: 264,000.

Specification: 2.0 g, 0.500 fine silver, 0.0401 troy oz ASW, this specimen Ø18 mm, 2.03 g, 6h axis.

Catalog reference: KM 136.3a; Y 15c.
