This specimen was lot 1242 in Sincona sale 80 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 3,200 CHF (about US$3,835 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "[[Great Britain|GREAT BRITAIN]] | Königreich, George I. 1714-1727. Guinea 1723, London. Fifth laureate head. NGC AU53." This type was struck 1723-27 with no symbol below the bust. There is a variety (KM 559.2) with an elephant below the bust, indicating the use of African gold, which is very rare. Guineas were superseded by sovereigns during the reform of 1817.
