Sincona sale 75, lot 197

This specimen was lot 197 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,462 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Grossbritannien | Königreich. George I. 1714-1727. Guinea 1724, London. Fifth laureate head. NGC AU55." This type, the final one for George I, was struck 1723-27. Altho none of the guineas of George I are common, this is a scarcer type. An "elephant and castle" guinea was struck using this bust (Fr-328a) but in 1726 only.
