SB223-73251r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73251 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 24 Mariengroschen, 1726-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint. August Wilhelm. PCGS MS-61. Despite a few minor planchet flaws near the center of the reverse, this pleasing Mint State specimen yields some rather elegant iridescent toning accentuating the wildman. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This denomination was two-thirds of a thaler or one gulden. This type was struck 1714-30 and is somewhat scarce. Mintmaster EPH appears 1723-31.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-731; Welter-2383.
