Heritage sale 3016, lot 24685

This specimen was lot 24685 in Heritage sale 3016 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $6,900. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VI gold 4 Escudos 1759-MM, AU58 NGC, superbly detailed with old-time toning and considerable original mint luster. A choice example of this rare type featuring the King with a long curled wig. Ex: Cayon, November 2004, Lot 4281." This very rare type was struck 1757 and 1759 only and is the last type featuring Ferdinand VI, who died in 1759.

Specification: 13.54 grams, 0.917 fine gold, .399 troy oz AGW.
