Sincona sale 6, lot 1861
Kampen in 1648

This specimen was lot 1861 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NIEDERLANDE Kampen, Stadt Taler 1672. Belagerung durch Bernhard von Galen. Stadtwappen, darunter Stadtname. Rv. Vier Zeilen Schrift. Gutes sehr schön-sehr schön. (Netherlands, city of Kampen, thaler of 1672, struck during the siege by Bernhard of Galen. Obverse: city arms, "CAMPEN" below; reverse, four line inscription, very fine to good very fine.)"

This type was struck as emergency coinage during a siege and is rare.
