Kampen 1684 daalder Dav-4879
This specimen was lot 75531 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Kampen. Lion Dollar (Daalder), 1684. NGC AU-53. Lily mintmark. Variety with knight left. An appealing and alluring handsome example with limited signs of handling and much appeal." This type was struck by the city of Kampen 1675-93. The reverse legend, "CONFIDENS : DNO : NON : MOVETVR," means, "He who has confidence in the Lord shall not be moved." The States General complained for decades that the municipal mints, such as Kampen, cheated on their coinage's weight and alloy and finally closed them all at the end of the seventeenth century.
