Sincona sale 85, lot 1166

This specimen was lot 1166 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$2,020 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Muhammad Ali Shah, 1324-1327 AH (1907-1909). 1/2 Toman 1324 AH (1906/1907 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. Rare. NGC MS62. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 179. Bought from S. Cordry, San Diego, 1982. Finest certified by NGC."

This is the only half toman of Muhammed Ali with a lion obverse. Half tomans were also struck for Muzaffar al-Din in AH 1324 (KM 994.1). This denomination was also struck in silver, but is very rare.
