This specimen was lot 51 in Sincona sale 75 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 6,750 CHF (about US$8,193 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Grossbritannien | Königreich. Henry VIII. 1509-1547. George noble n. d. (1526-1544), Tower Mint. Second coinage. Mintmark rose. ''Äusserst selten.'' NGC FINE Details. ''Beschädigt.'' (Extremely rare, Damaged.)" During Henry's second coinage, the gold angel, heretofore six shillings eight pence (one-third pound), was raised to seven shillings sixpence (three-eighths of a pound). To fill the hole thereby created, the george noble was issued. While the second coinage is traditionally dated 1526-44, we can't imagine Henry putting Katherine's initial on any coin issued after 1533, when he had determined to divorce her. Another george noble exists (Fr-161) without the "H K" initials. Both are rare and the denomination was not struck again. The gold angel survived until the reign of Charles I, finishing its career at the value of ten shillings.
