This specimen was lot 760 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 1,850 € (about US$2,795 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,
"1806. Carlos IV. Lima. JP. 2 escudos. Bella. Precioso color. Parte de brillo original. Rara y más así. EBC/EBC+. (Two escudos of 1806, Lima mint. Nice color, part of original luster, rare thus, extremely fine.)"
This specimen is one of a series struck 1791-1808 at Lima, Peru, during the reign of Charles IV (1788-1808). Assayer JP is listed for 1803-21. The small gold denominations of Peru are all very rare.
