The first specimen was lot 3183 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,235 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH, Oskar II. 1872-1905. 10 Kronen 1874, Kongsberg. 4,03 g Feingold. GOLD. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (kingdom of Norway, Oscar II, 1872-1902, ten kronen of 1874, Kongsberg mint. Scarce, especially in this quality, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The second specimen was lot 34116 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[2] noted, "Norway: Oscar II gold 10 Kroner (2-1/2 Speciedaler) 1874 MS62 NGC, Kongsberg mint. A fetching representative of this fleeting one-year type. The surfaces are cloaked in satin sheen and spared from any singularly significant detracting instances of handling." This issue is scarce; the next ten kronor would be KM 358 of 1877. Note the dual denomination: 10 kroner = 2½ specie daler. This feature was dropped from later issues. In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince. Even before passing under Swedish rule in 1814, Norway had enjoyed a separate coinage from Denmark.
