This specimen was lot 31087 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "Norway: Oscar II 50 Øre 1875 MS65 PCGS. A scarce Norwegian denomination in an impressive gem grade, surfaces glowing with cartwheel luster." In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince. Even before passing under Swedish rule in 1814, Norway had enjoyed a separate coinage from Denmark. This type was struck 1874-75 and is rather expensive. Note the dual denomination: 50 øre = 15 skilling. This feature was dropped from later issues.
Recorded mintage: 640,000.
Specification: 5 g, 0.600 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 346.
