Sincona sale 20, lot 3222

This specimen was lot 3222 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Vereinstaler 1866. Kremnitz. Vorzüglich-FDC. (union thaler of 1866, Kremnitz mint, extremely fine to uncirculated.)" This type was struck 1866-67 and was the second type struck to the vereinsthaler standard (18.52 g, 0.900 fine). The 1866-B is common. After 1867, Bismarck forced Austria out of German affairs and the Hapsburgs thereafter had little reason to conform to German monetary conventions. The thaler was dropped after 1868 and in 1892 the corona was adopted.

Recorded mintage: 685,135.

Specification: 18.51 g, 0.900 fine silver, 33 mm diameter, this specimen 18.51 g.

Catalog reference: Herinek 33, Veselý 40, Dav-26; KM 2245, Kahnt 353. Jl. 316.
