This specimen was lot 31710 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George VI Proof Florin 1947 PR64 Cameo NGC, A quite beautifully toned example, full of flash in the fields, over which lies a soft patina interweaving argent and champagne color to luxurious effect. Only two examples certify higher at the 'Cameo' level across PCGS and NGC combined. Ex. CT Collection." This type was struck in copper-nickel 1947-48 and superseded the billon florin of 1937-46. Only the proofs are rare. Florins of 1949-52 dropped the "IND IMP" from the king's titles.
Recorded mintage: 22,910,000 + proofs.
Specification: 11.31 g, copper-nickel, 28.3 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 865.
