This specimen was lot 30701 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $440.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Shilling 1879, Young Head, MS63 NGC. A delightful example of the shilling of this year, without die number. Unusually sharp in strike, this coin is brightly lustrous beneath rich golden blue iridescent toning." This type was struck 1879-87 as the final issue of the young head type first struck in 1838. This date is common but a few come with die numbers (KM 734.2).
Recorded mintage: 3,611,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 5.65 g, 0.925 fine silver, .168 troy oz ASW.
