This type was struck 1959-2001 and has little collector value except for some of the early proofs. This type was demonetized in 2002, with the coming of the euro. The obverse features the edelweiss, the flower made famous by The Sound of Music.

Recorded mintage: 50,000,000 plus 25,000 special uncirculated for the sets.

Specification: 4.2 g, aluminum bronze, 22.5 mm diameter, plain edge.
