This specimen was lot 3732 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €650 (about US$851 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm I. der Soldatenkönig, 1713-1740. 2/3 Taler 1722, IGN, Berlin. Kl. Randfehler, kl. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William, 1713-40, two-thirds thaler of 1722, Berlin mint. Some rim nicks, hairlines, very fine.)"
Prussia was one of the leaders in issuing gulden (⅓ thaler) in the 1670's and 1680's. Friedrich Wilhelm issued gulden fairly steadily during his reign but the mintages must have been small, as they are all rare. Many 2/3 thalers or gulden were struck for Frederick William, including KM 104 (1713), KM 105 (1713), KM 106 (1713), KM 107 (1713-15), KM 128 (1714), KM 129 (1714-15), KM 130 (1714), KM 145 (1715), KM 146 (1715), KM 147 (1715-16), KM 153 (1716-17), KM 154 (1716-18), KM 160 (1717-18), KM 160a (1717), KM 170 (1718-19), KM 178 (1719-24, shown here) and KM 179 (1719). After 1724, no more were minted until 1741.
Recorded mintage: 22,282.
Specification: 17.32 g, 0.750 fine silver, 36 mm diameter, this specimen 17.42 g.
