Künker sale 353, lot 3255

This specimen was lot 3255 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,670 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm I. der Soldatenkönig, 1713-1740. Dukat 1722, CG, Königsberg. Mit Signatur M im Armabschnitt und BORUSS am Ende der Vorderseitenumschrift. 3,38 g. Münzmeister Caspar Geelhaar. Stempelschneider Gottfried Wilhelm Metelles. GOLD. Kl. Randfehler, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, fast sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, the Soldier King, 1713-40, ducat of 1722, Königsberg mint, with "M" on the truncation and BORUSS at the end of the obverse legend. Small edge nicks, field marks, about very fine.)"

This type was struck at Königsberg 1718-28 and all dates are listed as rare. Issues of ducats in Prussia, never prolific, dwindled after the introduction of the frederick d'or in the 1740's.
