Mexico 1982 peso

The stress of inflation in the 1980's as Mexico squandered her oil bonanza caused many coin types to come and go. This type was introduced in 1970 and lasted until 1983, when it was superseded by a stainless steel type (KM 496) which lasted until 1987. Morelos appears on the obverse. The date has "open 8" and "closed 8" varieties, with the "open 8" being the scarcer.

Recorded mintage: 235,000,000.

Specification: 9 g, copper-nickel, 29 mm diameter, reeded edge.
