This specimen was lot 41038 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/4 Real, 1834-So. Santiago Mint. NGC AU-58. This final date is the KEY to this brief three-year issuance. The present example sits behind just one finer on the NGC census. Beneath the mottled charcoal tone, persistent luster beams throughout the fields. A RARE find for collectors seeking the date. From the EMO Collection." Altho this is the highest mintage date, it is today the scarcest.
Recorded mintage: 134,000.
Specification: 0.9 g, .901 fine silver, 11 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: EMO-2210.1 (Plate coin); KM-89.
