Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72111

This specimen was lot 72111 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $1,260. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1834. London Mint. William IV. PCGS PROOF-63 Gold Shield. A VERY RARE issue as a proof, this choice specimen features wonderfully brilliant fields and a light degree of frosting to the devices. A light burgundy tone further accentuates its charm and appeal. The finest certified by PCGS. From the Regent Crest Collection." This type was struck for William IV 1831 and 1834-37 in fairly large numbers and this is an available date.

Recorded mintage: 5,892,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.82 (not 3.01) g, 0.925 fine silver.
