This type was struck at the Turin mint 1861-65 during the reign of Victorio Emanuele II of Italy. It is struck to the same standard as the contemporary French 10 francs and, like it, was produced in smaller numbers than the 20 lire. It is, however, quite common. The SCWC records several varieties for this date, depending on the diameter, but they are all priced about the same. The 1865 is scarce and the 1861 is very rare. The denomination does not seem to have been popular as no more were struck during Victorio Emanuele's reign or that of Umberto I (1878-1900).
Recorded mintage: 543,000.
Specification: 3.22 g, 0.900 fine gold, .093 troy oz AGW.
