This specimen was lot 1163 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mauritius (struck at the Heaton Mint, Birmingham, England), bronze 5 cents specimen, Victoria, 1877-H, medal axis, PCGS SP66 RB, finest known in both NGC and PCGS censuses, ex-Heaton Mint Archives. Bright and glossy in golden-red color with slight incipient darkening on reverse, minimal marks, the finest of just three at PCGS, the only other one certified being a single SP 58 BN at NGC. PCGS #80048476. Pedigreed to the Heaton Mint Archives." This ten cent piece was struck for Mauritius in 1877-90, 1897 and is the first coin of that denomination issued for that island along with an accompanying ten, twenty, two and one cent pieces. It is common in circulated condition but the price ascends rapidly with grade. The island remained under British rule until 1968.
Recorded mintage: 3,000,000.
Specification: bronze.
Catalog reference: KM-9.
