Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 55740
SB823-55740r.jpg

This specimen was lot 55740 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Regensburg. Taler, 1774-GCB. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, EF Details." This convention thaler was issued in 1764 with several variations in the emperor's bust (Dav-2623, -2424 and -2424A, shown here). All are scarce. The solder marks on the reverse are classic signs of the previous presence of a brooch mount.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2624A; KM-424.
