In 1867 the silver coinage was redesigned to adopt the portrait of the emperor Pedro II, who already appeared on the gold coinage. The type went thru several minor modifications before settling on the final type shown here, struck 1876-89. Most of the fourteen dates of the type are reasonably available; this one is the second most common after the 1876.
