This specimen was lot 53874 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 50 Reis, 1888. Rio de Janeiro Mint. Pedro II. PCGS MS-63." This type was struck 1886-88 and this date is fairly common tho uncirculated specimens are scarce. It was intended to displace the copper forty réis struck twenty years before.
