This specimen was lot 1793 in Sincona sale 63 (Zurich, June 2020), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$125 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Nicholas I. 1825-1855. 2 Kopecks 1842, Izhora Mint, SPM. Very fine-extremely fine. Minor edge clip. Flan defects." The second specimen was lot 358 in Sincona sale 84 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 15 CHF (about US$20 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 2 Kopecks 1842, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB. Very fine. From the Soedermann Collection."
This type was struck at Izhora 1840-43 and at Ekaterinburg, St. Petersburg and Suzun.
Recorded mintage: 4,800,000.
Specification: copper, the first specimen 18.28 g. the second specimen is 18.11 g.
