This specimen was lot 11387 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $306. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1919. PCGS MS-64 RB. Sharply struck." This bronze ten centavos was also struck 1920, 1921 and 1935; all dates are scarce in nice condition. It was issued when silver prices did not permit the circulation of silver ten centavos which were minted 1905-14 and 1925-35 (KM 428). A silver ten centavos was also issued in 1919 (see KM 429). The bronze coins were withdrawn and demonetized in the 1930's in favor of a copper-nickel replacement. There are also similar bronze one, two, five and twenty centavos.
Recorded mintage: 1,232,000, a scarce date.
Specification: 12 g, bronze (.950 Cu, .025 Sn, .025 Zn), 30.5 mm diameter, plain edge.
Catalog reference: KM 430.
