Stack's Bowers 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73085
SB621-73085r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73085 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopeks, 1812-CNB NC. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander I. PCGS MS-64 Brown Gold Shield. Fairly common overall, but incredibly difficult and quite SCARCE in this elite state of preservation. Not surprisingly, the finest seen in the PCGS census." Assayer's initials PS stand for Paul Stupitsyn. This type was struck 1810-14, 1818 and 1828. Many other mints struck two kopeks during this reign..

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 13.66 g, copper.

Catalog reference: KM-C118.6; Bit-577.
