This specimen was lot 71451 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopeks, 1795/4 AM. Annensk. PCGS AU-50 Secure Holder. Dark chocolate brown patina. Clear overdate." This type was struck 1781-96 in the Kolyvan mint for circulation in Russia during the reign of Catherine the Great. Many millions were issued between the Annensk (struck 1789-96), Moscow, Feodesia, Kolyvan, Ekaterinburg and St. Petersburg mints. Many survive today but few in choice condition. This is a rare date, being priced at twenty times the Ekaterinburg issue. Russia has the distinction of being the first country to issue decimal currency, as 100 kopeks = one ruble.
Recorded mintage: 56,000.
Specification: 20.48 g, copper.
