Great Britain 1888 shilling

Goldberg sale 84, lot 4330

This specimen was lot 4330 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $141. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Great Britain. Shilling, 1888/7. Victoria. The last 8 of the date struck over a 7. Beautifully toned and mint state. NGC graded MS-64." The SCWC does not list a normal date for the year. This type was struck 1887-89 then slightly modified for 1889-92. The 1887 was extensively saved but the other dates are a little harder to find.

Recorded mintage: 4,527,000.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.925 fine silver, 23.5 mm diameter.
