Saxe-Meiningen SB818-22681r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22681 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Meiningen. 3 Mark, 1908-D. Munich Mint. PCGS MS-65 PL Secure Holder. Impressively preserved with undeniable mirror-like reflectivity in the fields. One of only two examples to be given the "Prooflike" designation at PCGS." This three mark was struck 1908 and 1913 and is a somewhat better type. It is accompanied by a silver two mark. The last duke, Bernhard III, abdicated in the maelstrom of the collapse of the Wilhelmine regime in 1918.

Recorded mintage: 35,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 16.66 g, .900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-203, Dav-488.
