This specimen was lot 72178 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. 5 Cents, 1922. London Mint. PCGS MS-64 Brown Gold Shield. A pleasing example of the type with subtle, satiny luster and hints of mint red in the protected areas." This type was struck 1917, 1920-24 in modest numbers. It accompanied a bronze cent and two cents. Silver quarter, half and one rupees were struck for George V but not until 1934. The next issue of this denomination was in 1942.
