Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72113

This specimen was lot 72113 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. 5 Cents, 1923. PCGS MS-63 Brown Gold Shield. Dot below bust. Finest graded by PCGS with a Brown designation. As follows with the grade, bronze issues dated between 1877 and 1924 are rare in Uncirculated condition. Hints of original mint red is seen around the legend and other protected areas. A handsome example sure to be welcome addition to the next collection it enters." This type was struck 1917, 1920-24 and is surprisingly scarce. The next issue of this denomination was in 1942.
