Künker sale 264, lot 3653

This specimen was lot 3653 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €5,000 (about US$6,459 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg III. 1760-1820. Dukat 1800. Harzgold. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George III, 1760-1820, ducat of 1800, minted from Harz gold. Very rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Friedberg lists these ducats, minted from gold mined in the Harz mountains, for 1767-1818. The SCWC breaks the issue into three types, KM 359 (1767-89), KM 396 (1791-1800, shown here) and KM 111 (1815 and 1818). All are scarce.
