Kunker sale 263, lot 612

This specimen was lot 612 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,100 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bavaria, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Maximilian I. (IV.) Joseph, 1799-1806-1825. Konv.-Taler 1803.. Jahrgang von größter Seltenheit. Sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian IV Joseph, 1799-1825, convention thaler of 1803. Very rare date, very fine.)"

This issue of 1802-03 is among the last minted before Napoleon promoted Maximilian from Elector to King.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 28.06 g, .833 fine silver, lettered edge.
