Aureo sale 232, lot 1222

The specimen shown was lot 1222 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 210 euros (about US$346 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Felipe V (1700-1746). 1734. Madrid. JF. 4 reales. Buen ejemplar. Escasa. MBC+. (Philip V, 1700-46, four reales of 1734, Madrid mint, nice example, scarce, choice very fine.)

This type was issued at Madrid 1728-40. While four reales of this period are half the price of the rare eight reales, they are still seven times the price of a bust four reales of the 1770's.
