This specimen was lot 23607 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Escudos, 1800/799-M FA. Madrid Mint. Charles IV. NGC EF-45. A clear overdate issue, this lightly circulated example exhibits some gentle handling and a few scattered marks, but is otherwise a charming type, offering a golden-orange tone and some hints of luster peeking through." This type was struck in Madrid and Seville 1788-1808 for Charles IV. This date is common. Unlike the Latin American mints, which concentrated on producing eight escudos, the Spanish mints turned most of their gold into two escudos. Assayer FA operated 1800-07.
