from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71286

This specimen was lot 71286 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $85. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1854-C CE. Culiacan Mint. NGC AU-55. The sole example graded by NGC. A better date with abundant remaining field luster and gray to almond toning." This is a slightly better date of a slightly better mint. The Culiacan mint struck half reales 1846-49, 1852-63 and 1867-69.
