This specimen was lot 31130 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $6,600. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[France]]. Republic platinum Proof Piefort Franc 1985 PR69 NGC, Paris mint. The certified first of just 5 platinum pieforts produced for this denomination in this year, and striking as an issue that is not illustrated in Gadoury's Essais Monétaires. For reference, the last example of this type we brought to auction, only a PR67, brought $5640 in August. Sold with NGC-verified Monnaies de Paris COA No. 0001." This specimen is from a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1960-2001 altho some years saw the denomination struck only for collector sets. The precious metal issues were strictly for insiders and collectors.
