Sincona sale 63, lot 562
Altenburg in 1789, with Eisenberg between Gera and Naumbrg

This specimen was lot 562 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$376 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Sachsen-Altenburg, Herzogtum, Johann Philipp, Johann Wilhelm, Friedrich Wilhelm II., 1625-1632. Taler 1626, Saalfeld. Attraktives Sehr schön. Kleine Kratzer. Schrötlingsfehler. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, joint rule of John Philip, John William, Frederick William II, thaler of 1626, Saalfeld mint. Attractive Very fine, Small scratches, Flan flaw.)"

This state was created in 1602 from Saxe-Weimar for Johann II and survived until the death of Frederick William III in 1672, when it was claimed by Saxe-Gotha. This type was struck 1626-32 and is fairly available.
