Saxe-Altenburg 1626-WA thaler Dav-7376
This specimen was lot 562 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$376 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND | Sachsen-Altenburg, Herzogtum, Johann Philipp, Johann Wilhelm, Friedrich Wilhelm II., 1625-1632. Taler 1626, Saalfeld. Attraktives Sehr schön. Kleine Kratzer. Schrötlingsfehler. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, joint rule of John Philip, John William, Frederick William II, thaler of 1626, Saalfeld mint. Attractive Very fine, Small scratches, Flan flaw.)"
Saxe-Altenburg, one of the many splinters of ducal Saxony, was formed in 1573 and lapsed several times before its final extinction after World War One. This type was struck 1626-32 and is fairly available.
