Mexico 1999 peso

This specimen is one of a type issued since the reform of the Mexican peso in 1992 (one new peso = 100 old pesos). The design was modified slightly in 1996 to drop the "N" in front of the "$" but is otherwise unchanged. In 2025, the core was changed to bronze plated steel and the coin became magnetic. When it was introduced, one dollar was about three pesos; today (September 2026), US$1 = 19.6 pesos.

Recorded mintage: 99,168,000.

Specification: 3.95 g, stainless steel ring with aluminum-bronze center, 21 mm diameter.
