Künker Auction 440, lot 3556

This specimen was lot 3556 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €240 (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 3 Kreuzer 1808. Rundes Wappen (Hirschstangen/Löwen). Mit KÖNIGL · WÜRT · SCHEIDEMÜNZ · auf der Vorderseite. KM 500, AKS 53 Anm.; J. 8; Klein/Raff 46.1 b. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben im Oktober 1991 aus dem Lager der BW-Bank, Stuttgart. (kingdom of Württemberg, Frederick I, 1806-16, three kreuzer of 1808. Obverse: "KONIGL · WURT · SCHEIDEMUNZ ·"; reverse: round arms with lion and antlers. minor planchet defects, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1807-14. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick, who ascended the throne of Württemberg as a duke, was promoted to king by Napoleon in 1806. He did quite well out of Napoleon's reorganization of Germany and found his realm doubled in size. A timely switching of sides allowed him to keep his gains at the Congress of Vienna.

Recorded mintage: 2,407,219.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.333 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, this specimen 1,35 g.

Catalog reference: KM 495, AKS 51 Anm.; J. 9; Klein/Raff 44.2 e.
