Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 34166
SB125-34166r.jpg

This specimen was lot 34166 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Franc, 1807-W. Lille Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS AU-55. A SCARCE offering, this near-Mint specimen provides charming eye appeal through its gunmetal gray toning and wholesome surface quality. The only example of the date and mint in the PCGS census. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Wade Hinderling at NYINC on 4 December 1997 for $325)." In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. This type was struck 1806-07 and only the 1806-A is reasonably common. This date from the Lille mint is scarce.

Recorded mintage: 15,391[2].

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.

Catalog reference: KM-672.11; Gad-444; F.202/19.
